When booking a session – you’ll be sent a pdf with tips and suggestions on what to bring and we can always go through it when doing the consultation as well.

On this blog post I want to touch on colour and mood – it’s amazing how colour can make or break an image.

If you struggle with what to wear for a shoot – a good tip is to have a look at the gallery page and see what photos you are drawn to and look through your wardrobe for similar things.

Strong punchy rich colours need to be used with care – for studio sessions – childrens complexions are usually very fair and they can look very washed out and all you see is the clothes colour. They also tend to reflect on the skin and give a colour cast on the photos. I always recommend pastels or matt solid colours- they photograph the best.

Pick clothes that’ll bring out the features – the colours you wear can very much change the eye colour when it reflects up in the eyes.  Blue will dull brown eyes but enhance blue eyes.  Very dark eyes can get a boost from light clothes. Green or pink works well for brown eyes. Neutral and light clothes leave me the option to add a coloured background without it looking too much.

The mood changes dramatically with what you wear – causal or smart – airy and light v dark and moody- cute or classic. The best advice is always to avoid really strong patterns and logos – it’ll date the photos really quick and take your eyes away from the person.

Dark colours give a very moody look - this is popular with teenage girls as it has got a magazine look.

Matt green is a great colour for brown eyes.

Pastels can add a splash of colour without overpowering.

White or light colours look contemporary and pure - and with some fun details like lace and ruffles-very cute.
